Meet Our Margaret

Margaret is a very special part of our family and of Cucciolini Doodles. Her beautiful Bernese markings are usually the first thing people notice, but for me, it is her temperament that makes her so special.

She is calm, affectionate and loyal. She likes being close to us and being part of what is happening in the home, but she is not a dog who needs to be the centre of attention. She has a quiet, steady way about her that I truly love.

When I choose a dog to be part of our breeding program, I look far beyond appearance. Temperament, health, structure and the way a dog fits into family life all matter to me. Margaret has the gentle Bernese nature I want families to feel when they meet her future puppies.

Margaret’s Temperament

Margaret has the kind of temperament I value very highly in our dogs. She is loving without being demanding and calm without being withdrawn. She is happy to be near us, to be included in family life and then to settle quietly when things are calm.

I also find her very intuitive. She notices what is going on around her and responds in a gentle way. She is confident, but she is not overbearing. She has a very natural way of being with people that makes her easy to live with.

That steady nature is important to me because I want our parent dogs to be dogs I would be proud to live with whether or not they were ever part of a breeding program.

Margaret at Home

Margaret lives as part of our family. She is used to the normal sounds and routines of a home, including visitors, conversation, grooming, handling and the everyday activity that goes on around her.

She enjoys being with us and does not need constant entertainment to be content. She can be involved when something is happening and then settle down when the house becomes quiet. That balance is something I appreciate very much in her.

I believe dogs become confident through consistency, kindness and everyday experiences. Margaret has grown up knowing that she is part of the family, and that is how I want all of our parent dogs to live.

Why Margaret Is Part of Our Bernedoodle Program

Margaret is a Bernese Mountain Dog, and when she is paired with a Poodle, her puppies will be F1 Bernedoodles.

I chose Margaret for our program because of much more than her beautiful tri-colour coat. I look at the whole dog. Her temperament, health, structure, family nature and the way she relates to people are all important to me.

The Poodle selected for Margaret will be chosen carefully to complement her. I look at health testing, temperament, structure, coat and size before deciding on a pairing. I do not choose a sire simply because of colour or because a certain size is popular. The pairing has to make sense for the dogs and for the puppies we hope to raise.

About Margaret’s Future F1 Bernedoodles

An F1 Bernedoodle is the first generation from a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle. Puppies within an F1 litter can still be different from one another in size, coat, colour and personality, which is completely normal.

I want families to look at more than a photograph when choosing a puppy. Temperament, expected adult size, grooming needs and how a puppy may fit into the family are all important.

Margaret’s DNA Health Testing

Health testing is very important to me. Margaret’s DNA results are part of the information I use when planning a responsible pairing and selecting the right sire for her.

• Hereditary Cataracts — Clear
• GM2 Gangliosidosis — Clear

DNA testing is only one part of how I make breeding decisions. I also consider veterinary care, temperament, structure, the health of both parents and whether the pairing is right for our program.

Margaret’s Coat and Colour

Margaret has the traditional black, rust and white markings of a Bernese Mountain Dog. I love her colouring, but colour is never more important to me than health and temperament.

The Poodle selected for Margaret will also influence the puppies’ colour, pattern and coat type. In an F1 litter, coats can vary from softer waves to more defined curls, and furnishings can also vary from puppy to puppy.

I prefer to give families the coat and colour information for the actual planned pairing rather than make a general promise on a Meet page. Margaret’s Nursery page is where I keep those details current.

Grooming and Coat Care

Bernedoodle coats need regular care. Brushing and combing at home, along with professional grooming, are important for keeping the coat comfortable and preventing mats.

I recommend getting puppies comfortable with grooming from the beginning. Handling their paws, brushing the coat, checking ears and getting them used to being touched makes grooming much easier as they grow.

What I Hope Margaret Passes On

What I hope to see in Margaret’s future puppies is the same gentle loyalty I see in her. I would love for her puppies to be affectionate, steady, family-oriented dogs who enjoy being part of everyday life and can settle comfortably with the people they love.

I also hope they carry her calm confidence. I want puppies who can enjoy play and activity but who can also relax in the home. That balance is very important in a family companion.

Every puppy will still have his or her own personality. No two puppies are exactly alike, even within the same litter, and I think families should understand and appreciate those differences.

How I Get to Know the Puppies

As the puppies grow, I spend time watching how they respond to people, handling, new experiences and one another. Some puppies show themselves to be more outgoing, while others are quieter, more cuddly, more curious or more playful.

Those observations help me guide approved families when it is time to choose a puppy. I do not believe a family should have to make such an important decision based only on colour or one photograph.
