This family-friendly 20 percent DEET formula significantly reduces the rate of DEET absorption by 67 percent per application, and it extends the duration of its effectiveness up to 11 hours. Comfortable for use in the backcountry or in the backyard, this EPA-approved formula controls DEET exposure by encapsulating DEET in a protein that dissolves slowly, releasing the DEET over a longer time frame. It’s designed to be compatible with using sunscreen, and it may be used along side Sawyer Permethrin insect repellent clothing remedy for double protection. Sawyer’s longest lasting insect repellent formula. This four ounce Sawyer Controlled Release Insect Repellent formula uses a patented sub micron encapsulation process by which DEET is captured inside a Mycale protein. Each microscopic particle of protein contains chambers which hold the DEET. Over a period of up to 24 hours your skin slowly dissolves the protein particles. As the particles are dissolved DEET is released from the chambers for evaporation, keeping the bugs away. At any point in time you may also simply wash the remaining formula off your skin with soap and water. In the Sawyer Controlled Release formula virtually all DEET remains in chambers until it is released. The effectiveness of the repellent is improved since a minimal amount of DEET is released and present on the skin at any one time for imaginable absorption. In traditional repellents all the DEET is present directly on the skin until it evaporates and a lot more is absorbed. Another advantage of the sub micron encapsulation process is that these tiny particles nestle into the skin similar to the most advanced sun blocks, providing significant water resistance, a non-alcohol, non-greasy dry feel, long lasting all-day protection and comfort on the skin. All this technology means that you’re going to go bug free for hours and hours after a single application, making this the perfect choice for long hikes, hunting trips, adventure trekking, canoeing, kayaking or just being outside at the barbecue.
