Meet Our Sweet Teddy
There are some dogs whose personalities seem much bigger than their size, and Teddy is certainly one of them.
Teddy is our beautiful Miniature Red Poodle at Cucciolini Doodles in Ontario, but when we look at him, we do not first see his beautiful red coat, his genetics or his future role in our Mini Doodle program. We see our lovable little Munchkin – a gentle, affectionate boy who seems to believe that everyone he meets could become his newest friend.
Teddy has such a naturally sweet way about him. He is docile without being timid, social without needing to be the centre of attention, and exceptionally bright without losing that soft, loving quality that makes him so easy to adore. He enjoys people, notices what is happening around him, and has the kind of affectionate personality that makes you want to scoop him up and keep him close.
To us, that temperament is far more important than colour. His rich red coat may be what someone notices first in a photograph, but Teddy’s loving personality is what makes him special to our family.
As we thoughtfully develop our future Mini Doodle program at Cucciolini Doodles, Teddy represents many of the qualities we value most: intelligence, sociability, affection, trainability, gentleness and a genuine desire to connect with people.

Teddy’s Personality – Our Gentle Little Munchkin
There is a softness about Teddy that is difficult to explain until you spend time with him. He has a docile, affectionate temperament and an easy warmth with people. Rather than approaching life with uncertainty, Teddy seems genuinely interested in those around him. He enjoys meeting people and welcomes attention with the kind of sweetness that immediately makes him endearing.
He truly loves everyone he meets. That is one of our favourite things about him. Teddy does not seem to measure people by age, appearance or whether he has known them for a long time. He simply enjoys human companionship. There is an innocence in the way he makes connections that we find incredibly special.
He is affectionate but not overwhelming. He enjoys being included, enjoys closeness and loves knowing what everyone is doing. At the same time, he can settle comfortably and simply enjoy being near us.
That balance means a great deal to us. A loving family companion should be able to enjoy activity and play, but there is something equally beautiful about a dog who knows how to share quieter moments. Teddy has that lovely quality.
He can make us smile through his curiosity and playful personality, then become the sweetest little companion when everything settles down. It is why calling him our little Munchkin feels so natural.
An Intelligent Miniature Poodle With a Loving Heart
Miniature Poodles are well known for their intelligence, trainability and charming companion qualities. Teddy’s Miniature Poodle temperament reflects many of those qualities beautifully: he is bright, eager to engage, gentle and wonderfully social.
We certainly recognize those qualities in Teddy. His intelligence appears in the little things. He watches. He listens. He notices routines. He learns quickly. And perhaps most importantly, he seems interested in understanding what is happening around him.
For us, intelligence in a family dog is not simply about how quickly a dog learns a command. It is also about awareness, adaptability and the ability to form meaningful relationships with people.
Teddy is wonderfully observant. He enjoys interaction and responds well to kind guidance. His bright little mind is always working, but it is paired with such an affectionate temperament that his intelligence never feels distant. He wants to participate.
That combination of Miniature Poodle intelligence and Teddy’s naturally social personality is one of the reasons we are so excited about his future. Every dog is an individual, of course, and Teddy has his own personality. Breed characteristics can help us understand tendencies, but the Teddy we know has also been shaped by his upbringing, experiences and the loving relationships surrounding him.
And the Teddy we know is one exceptionally sweet little boy.
Why We Love Teddy’s Social Nature
Social confidence is something we value enormously at Cucciolini Doodles. Beautiful colour may attract someone’s attention to a puppy, but a beautiful personality is what a family lives with for years. That is why Teddy’s sociability matters so much to us.
He enjoys meeting people. He likes being part of family life. He is curious about what is happening around him. And there is a friendliness about him that comes naturally.
Our dogs experience the normal rhythm of family life – voices, visitors, household activity, handling, grooming, quiet time and the many everyday experiences that help dogs understand the world around them.
We believe socialization should be positive and thoughtful rather than overwhelming. A dog does not become confident simply by being exposed to everything at once. Confidence grows through safe experiences, gentle guidance and trust.
Teddy’s own personality gives him a beautiful foundation. He approaches people with warmth and enjoys interaction, while his gentle temperament allows him to settle comfortably into normal family routines. That is exactly the kind of balance we appreciate.
What Is a Miniature Poodle?
The Poodle is one breed with different recognized size varieties. In Canada, the Miniature Poodle is over 10 inches and up to 15 inches at the shoulder. The Miniature fits between the smaller Toy variety and the larger Standard Poodle.
Miniature Poodles are known for much more than their famous curly coats. They are intelligent, active and highly trainable dogs that often enjoy being closely involved with their families. Their combination of manageable size and considerable intelligence has made the Miniature Poodle a versatile companion.
Teddy embodies many of the qualities we admire within his breed, but what we particularly love is the softness that accompanies those qualities. He isn’t simply clever – he is clever and loving. He isn’t simply social – he is social and gentle. And he isn’t simply beautiful – he has a personality that makes his beauty almost secondary.

Teddy’s Beautiful Red Poodle Coat
There is no denying that Teddy’s colouring is stunning. His intense red pigmentation gives him the warm, rich colour that makes Red Poodles so distinctive.
But as beautiful as colour can be, responsible breeding decisions should never be made around colour alone. When considering any future pairing at Cucciolini Doodles, we look at the whole dog.
That includes temperament, health information, genetic compatibility, structure, adult size, coat traits, personality, the characteristics of the female, the goals of the pairing and the future welfare of the puppies.
Teddy’s red colouring is simply one part of him. His DNA information reports intense red pigmentation, along with a furnished coat, long-hair genetics and coat traits associated with lower shedding.
Depending upon the genetics of both parents, Teddy may contribute beautiful warm coat colours to future puppies. However, puppy colour, markings and coat type depend upon both parents, and variation can occur even among puppies within one litter.
We never want colour to overshadow temperament or health. We would choose Teddy’s beautiful heart long before we chose him simply because he is red.
Teddy’s DNA Health Testing
Responsible breeding requires information. DNA testing is one of the tools we use to better understand the genetic health information of dogs being considered for our breeding program.
Teddy’s DNA results help us understand the tested inherited conditions and coat traits connected to his Miniature Poodle background. His health information reports that he is clear for the following tested conditions:
| DNA Health Test | Result |
|---|---|
| Progressive Retinal Atrophy, PRCD-PRA | CLEAR |
| Von Willebrand Disease Type I | CLEAR |
| Von Willebrand Disease Type II | CLEAR |
| Neonatal Encephalopathy with Seizures, NEWS | CLEAR |
| Degenerative Myelopathy, DM SOD1A | CLEAR |
| Hereditary Cataracts | CLEAR |
| GM2 Gangliosidosis | CLEAR |
| Chondrodystrophy and Intervertebral Disc Disease, CDDY/IVDD | CLEAR |
| Multidrug Resistance 1, MDR1 | CLEAR |
Teddy’s Additional DNA Traits and Current Weight
- Reported as 100% Small Poodle
- Intense red pigmentation
- Furnished coat
- Long-hair genetics
- Coat traits associated with lower shedding
- Current weight — 20 pounds
No affected genetic diseases were reported for the tested conditions listed above.
DNA testing is important, but we do not believe that a DNA report alone determines whether a dog should become part of a breeding program. Temperament matters. Structure matters. Veterinary care matters. Compatibility between parents matters. Above all, the welfare of the dogs and their future puppies matters.
We therefore consider Teddy as an entire dog rather than simply a collection of genetic results.
Families can learn more about the health-testing philosophy behind our program on our Trusted DNA Tested Doodles Ontario page.
Teddy’s Coat and Future Mini Doodle Puppies
Teddy carries furnishings and long-hair coat genetics, along with traits associated with lower shedding. These characteristics may influence future Mini Doodle coats when Teddy is paired with a genetically compatible female.
Depending upon the pairing, puppies could inherit coats ranging from soft waves to curlier, more Poodle-influenced coats. However, Doodle coats are influenced by both parents.
No responsible breeder should promise that every puppy will have an identical coat or that every dog will be completely non-shedding. Lower-shedding coats still require regular maintenance. Brushing, combing and professional grooming are important because curly and furnished coats can hold loose hair within the coat rather than simply dropping it onto the floor.
Families should consider coat type alongside temperament, grooming needs, activity level, training and the long-term responsibility of caring for a dog.

Teddy and Our Future Mini Doodle Program in Ontario
Teddy has been selected as part of our future Mini Doodle planning at Cucciolini Doodles. His smaller size may allow us to thoughtfully develop smaller Doodle companions while maintaining the qualities we consider much more important than simply producing a “mini” puppy.
Our goal is not to make dogs smaller for the sake of size. We want thoughtfully planned puppies whose size is appropriate for the pairing while continuing to prioritize health, temperament, intelligence, structure, sociability and family companionship.
Depending upon the female, genetic compatibility and the goals of a future pairing, Teddy may be considered for future Mini Goldendoodle puppies or Mini Bernedoodle puppies in Ontario.
A pairing involving Teddy should not be considered confirmed until we officially announce it. Expected size, generation, colour possibilities and timing will always depend on the particular female and the genetics of both parents.
Why Temperament Comes Before Size and Colour
There is a reason we have spent so much time talking about Teddy’s personality. Families understandably become excited about puppy colours and sizes. A beautiful red puppy is captivating. A small Doodle can be appealing to someone looking for a more manageable companion.
But when that puppy grows up, the most important part of life together will not be a number on a scale or the shade of the coat. It will be the relationship.
Will the dog enjoy being with you? Can the dog learn? Can the dog settle? Does the dog’s activity level fit your lifestyle? Are you prepared for grooming, training, veterinary care, exercise and a commitment that can last many years? These questions matter.
The Qualities We Hope Teddy Contributes to Future Puppies
No puppy can be guaranteed to become an exact copy of either parent. Genetics do not work that way, and every puppy develops an individual personality.
But when we look at Teddy, there are certainly qualities we would be delighted to see carried forward. Most of all, we hope his future puppies may inherit some of his sweetness, intelligence, social confidence, affectionate nature, trainability, gentle disposition, curiosity and people-focused personality.
We also appreciate Teddy’s beautiful coat traits and compact size, but these physical qualities remain secondary to the kind of companion a puppy may become.
A puppy’s life is also shaped by early experiences and by the family who raises them. That is why our work does not stop at genetics. Our puppies are raised with daily handling, affection, exposure to normal household life, age-appropriate socialization and careful observation as their individual personalities begin to develop.
We hope those early beginnings help each puppy move into family life with confidence, trust and a strong foundation for continued learning.
A Little Dog With a Very Big Place in Our Hearts
Every dog in our family is different. Teddy has claimed his place in his own quiet, charming way.
He doesn’t need to be the biggest dog in the room. He doesn’t need to demand attention. Somehow, people notice him anyway.
Perhaps it is his beautiful red coat. Perhaps it is his sweet expression. But once you actually meet him, you realize there is something much more important underneath.
There is simply goodness about him. He loves people. He enjoys companionship. He is remarkably smart. He is affectionate. He is gentle. And he has that wonderfully docile quality that makes spending time with him feel comfortable and natural.
He is our lovable little Munchkin, and we couldn’t imagine describing Teddy any other way.
